Frank DePietro moved to Philadelphia after graduating from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelors of Art in 1997. His concentrations at Bloomsburg consisted heavily in painting and ceramics, which he studied with contemporary realist painter Vince Hron and Medium Based Ceramist Karl Beamer. Both of whom heavily influenced his early style and philosophies. Upon arriving in Philadelphia, Frank enrolled in the Art Education program at Moore College of Art and Design. At Moore, while receiving his training in education, he began in depth research of Art History. This interest, particularly in the evolution of painting, began to shape the direction of his work for the next several years. DePietro's earlier work has a very Modernist appearance, mending together the styles of Expressionism, Art Brut and Pop Art. Recently, Frank has moved to Chester County and is pursuing a more academic approach to painting. His most recent work consists of more traditional landscapes, figures and still-life.
Frank DePietro has participated extensively in national group and juried exhibitions over the past several years. His solo exhibits include Haas Gallery of Art at Bloomsburg University, the Balance Gallery in Philadelphia and Community Art Center in Wallingford PA. Frank has been the recipient of the Phillip and Muriel Berman award for painting from the Cheltenham Art Center, and awarded for his works on paper from the Perkins Center for the Arts. Frank has taught painting and drawing at several regional art centers, schools and institutes. He received the 2008 JDCAP Education Program of the Year award, for his current work with at risk youth at the Montgomery County Youth Center.
